Improvement of performance and durability of direct methane protonic ceramic fuel cell through self-assembled Ni-Rh bimetallic catalyst


Professor Jongsup Hong's research team (Dr. Hong) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering developed a self-assembled Ni-Rh bimetallic catalyst for the anode of hydrogen fuel cells to promote the transition to an eco-friendly hydrogen economy. Through this research, performance and durability of the fuel cell were improved by approximately 2 and 20 times, respectively, compared to current fuel cells, and it was verified that power can be generated by directly injecting natural gas without a hydrogen generating device. This research has been published in the renowned international academic journal "Nature Communications (IF: 17.694)" on November 18, 2023, and was announced  in the National Research Foundation of Korea and several online articles.
