Improving electrochemical performance of practical high-temperature solid oxide cells with atomically dispersed platinum electrocatalysts supported on gadolinia doped ceria



Professor Jongsup Hong's research team (Jihong Min) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and a research team at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology has unveiled the capability of atomically dispersed catalysts to function reliably in high-temperature electrochemical devices, avoiding thermal degradation. The strong interactions between the atomic metal catalyst and the ceramic support prevent aggregation and enhance electrochemical performance when integrated into the porous electrode using an in-situ synthetic technique. Moreover, the thermal stabilization significantly expands the range of potential applications for atomically dispersed catalysts, enabling their practical use in various electrochemical energy devices. This research was published in the esteemed international academic journal 'Journal of Materials Chemistry A' with an Impact Factor of 11.9 in October 2023.
