Developed lab-on-printed circuit board(PCB) based water harvesting condensation particle counter for ubiquitous monitoring of airborne ultrafine particles(2021. 11. 05)

Professor Yong-Jun Kim's research team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering used Lab-on-PCB (Printed Circuit Board) technology for the measurement of airborne nanoparticles, and integrated the functions of elements necessary for water droplet growth in a single chip. Therefore, the CPC (condensation particle counter) was remarkably miniaturized/low cost, which made it possible to mass-produce as well as portable devices. The Lab-on-PCB-based CPC was able to grow even 10 nm-sized nanoparticles into water droplets, proving that high-precision monitoring of nanoparticles with accuracy comparable to commercial CPC is possible. In recognition of the excellence of this research, it was awarded the best paper award in the oral section at the Korean Society of Indoor Environment in 2021, and was published in the Journal of Aerosol Science (IF: 3.433).
