The autonomic nervous system (ANS) plays a crucial role in various chronic conditions, including essential hypertension, heart failure, gastroparesis, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and long COVID syndrome. Often, managing these conditions with pharmacological interventions alone can be challenging. As a result, electrical stimulation of different regions of the ANS has emerged as a promising alternative therapeutic option. In this lecture, we will review the current status of ANS electrical stimulation, exploring its technical and clinical limitations. Additionally, we will discuss future developments and potential expansions of its indications.
