In many engineering disciplines, open-ended Capstone projects are required later in the curriculum to provide students with an opportunity to integrate their skills across multiple domains and learn design principles and system integration. However, the primary objective of Capstone projects is often challenged by the limits of resources and time. In this lecture, I share my experience from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where I taught students in the BS in Biomedical Engineering (BME) program, an applied and interdisciplinary field that involves biological, electrical, mechanical, and computational components. The journey began with the Capstone project class for senior undergraduate students, resulting in multiple conference abstracts and publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
