Binder Jet Printing (BJP) is among the earliest metal additive manufacturing (AM) techniques, but it suffers from critical limitations such as incomplete densification, shrinkage, and slow printing speed. Despite these challenges, BJP provides unique advantages, particularly in enabling complex internal geometries—such as cavities and channels—that are difficult or impossible to fabricate with more established AM processes like Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM). This talk presents a series of innovations and modifications to BJP aimed at overcoming its deficiencies, culminating in the development of a new hybrid technique: Scalable and Expeditious Additive Manufacturing (SEAM), which integrates the principles of BJP with Stereolithography (SLA). The presentation will highlight the key engineering challenges involved in realizing SEAM, discuss its current limitations, and outline ongoing efforts to address these drawbacks.
